Jaash Singh is a multi-faceted percussionist who has been playing for most of his life. He gravitated toward the drum kit when he was 8 years old, and naturally discovered his love and deep rooted passion for rhythm. After many years in the rock, punk, and metal scenes of Toronto, Jaash found his way into the urban world folk scene through Bellydance accompaniment and Middle Eastern folk music study with Roula Said. Jaash is as a performance and studio percussionist with the Lemon Bucket Orkestra, Ada Dahli and the Pallbearers, Nomadica, Nesma, Ungro Rom, and Ventanas, exploring rhythms of North America, Africa, the Middle East and Greece, the Balkans, and Flamenco. Jaash also works as an independent percussion teacher, specializing in middle-eastern percussion for Bellydance. Other collaborations include theatre with David Hersh, Virlana Tkacz at LaMama Theatre in New York City, movement and sound with Suzanne Banay Santo, Modern Dance accompaniment at York University, and village folk dance workshop percussion with Stephania Woloshyn and Fedora Upside-Down. Jaash has recently been endorsed by OneTen Instruments, a hand-crafted percussion company based out of Toronto, specializing in wooden instruments such as cajons using materials sourced locally in Canada. www.jaash.ca
