Born in Toronto and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Apanaki Temitayo M is an author, spoken
word poet, actor and multimedia artist. Her canvas compositions are an expression of her
Trinidadian heritage and spirituality. Apanaki’s original textile art piece, The Egungun, explores
the reimagining of Tribal mask with the use of textiles. It was showcased the Workman Arts
Being Scene 12th Annual Juried Exhibition 2012 at Hart House, University of Toronto, Gladstone
Hotel and The Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival. Her poetry has been published in
PHOTI (Fresh Arts Literary Journal, Toronto Arts Council, 1995; Black Girl Talk Anthology, Black
Women and of Colour Press 1995; in the ground breaking Caribbean Erotic Anthology, Poetry,
Prose and Essays, Peepal Tree Press, UK, 2010; she is now honoured to be a part of
ReImagining the Sky Anthology as part of the Writers Workshop by the Newcomer Women’s
Services Toronto, 2013. Apanaki was featured in Award Winning Independent Movie Sistagod,
2006 featured in the Toronto International Film Festival .
