Saturday, May 20, 2023 @7pm Featuring Waleed Kush African Jazz Ensemble and Osaze Dolabaille Small World Music Centre, 180 Shaw St., Tickets: $30
The Jabari Project proudly celebrates the birth of Malcolm X instead of Queen Victoria again this Saturday, May 20, 2023. The intimate space at the Small World Music Centre will see a program of poetry, drumming and jazz paying tribute to the iconic and charismatic African American human rights activist and Black nationalist leader, Malcolm X. Born on May 19, 1925, Malcolm X was captivated and drew spiritual comfort from jazz throughout his life. Executive Director of the Jabari Project, Khalid Haneef-Jabari, has planned this 6th annual Malcolm X Day Celebration as an homage to jazz in relation to Malcolm X’s life. Featured artists include the Waleed Kush African Jazz Ensemble and poet, Osaze Dolabaille, and others, with remarks by Haneef-Jabari himself. For those who prefer to honour black liberation over British imperialism, this will be an exceptional evening. https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/the-6th-annual-malcolm-x-day-tickets-629380854077
